As a primary school student, Monica could recite the famous Elegy of Eternal Sorrow in full, though she then didn’t understand love, or even the meaning of “regret.”
“Breeze lifts her fairy robes, as if she dances in a feathered dress.”
This line depicts the scene where Emperor Tang Minghuang, after the Ma嵬 Slope Incident, uses spiritual means to reunite with Yang Yuhuan. At this point, Yang Yuhuan is no longer a mortal but still possesses her snow-white skin and flower-like beauty.
In classical Chinese culture, the appearance of immortals comes with a natural elegance, characterized by flowing robes. This can be seen in paintings, murals, and grotto statues without exception.
The inspiration for this 18K gold South Sea golden pearl brooch/pendant also comes from the flying apsaras of Dunhuang and the image of immortals in classical Chinese culture. Monica’s original design features a delicate ribbon, through which a 13mm+ Philippine golden South Sea pearl is threaded.
The ribbon’s design is distinctive, with a three-dimensional structure that is staggered in height. In addition to being set with 53 natural round brilliant-cut diamonds totaling nearly 0.75 carats, extensive use of gold with negative space is employed. Italian hand-brushing highlights the silk-like texture. The ribbon is adorned with starbursts and cabochon moonstones, making the piece resemble a bright moon racing through a starry sky, embodying dynamic cosmic beauty.
The reverse of “Breeze Lifts Fairy Robes” includes a loop for cord attachment, and it comes with a detachable 18K gold brooch.
